We are all bombarded with weight loss products and advertising to encourage us to lose weight and get fit. It’s been going on for years. Weight Watchers was founded in 1963, however if you search around you will find that structured weight loss diets have been around for hundreds of years at least. Many religions advocate fasting and some of those religions date back thousands of years.
The critical time frames would be a move away from physical work combined with cheaper food after the second world war, circa 1945 onwards. With the computer age our sedentary lifestyle has accelerated along with our love of fast food, generally full of sugar and fizzy pop drinks, also full of sugar.
So why do some of us find it so hard to get more active and give up all the sugary food and drinks; is there something else going on ?
For me there definitely was !
